Wilmington, DE – Goldey-Beacom College (GBC) congratulates Beth Kirker, director of career services, as the recipient of a 2023 Visionary Award presented by the Delaware ACE (American Council on Education) Women’s Network (DAWN).
GBC President Colleen Perry Keith lauded Kirker’s commitment to the College and said, “Beth is one of those individuals who sees a need and asks herself how she can help meet that need. She goes above and beyond in everything she does. Her creativity and desire to be of service has led the College to greater community involvement and the establishment of meaningful relationships that benefit not only GBC but our partners as well.”
The Visionary Award is presented to one person from each member institution. Criteria for the award includes a strong commitment to any aspect of higher education, community service and the promise of future leadership.
Kirker currently oversees Career Services working with both students and alumni to help them develop professionally and attain their career-related goals. In addition, she is a member of several collegewide committees including the Strategic Planning Committee, Student Success and Retention committee, and co-chairs both the Commencement Committee and Career Services and Business Advisory Board.
Kirker serves as the College’s liaison with the Red Clay School District’s Skyline Middle School AVID program organizing students, faculty and staff to mentor and tutor Skyline students while helping educate them on preparing for college and future careers. Kirker is a mentor for the Fresh Start Scholarship Program, a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers and Delaware ACE Women’s Network.
Kirker joined Goldey-Beacom College in 2012 in Career Services and now holds the position of director. A life-long Delawarean, she is a graduate of the University of Delaware and joined the College after working in several financial services firms. She enjoys traveling, spending time at the beach with her children and practicing yoga. She resides in Hockessin, Del.
Delaware ACE Women’s Network (DAWN) is committed to the advancement of women leaders in higher education. For more than 25 years, DAWN has provided information and counsel to constituencies within the higher education community regarding policies, issues, education, and research that influence women’s equity, diversity and advancement.
DAWN provides national leadership in advancing women to executive positions on campus and serves as a national voice for women in higher education. Staff members also work in collaboration with associations and other groups in higher education on ways to improve the status of women.
Founded in 1918, the mission of the American Council on Education (ACE) is to unite all of American higher education in service to students and society. Counted among its members are more than 1,800 accredited degree-granting colleges and universities and higher education–related associations, organizations, and corporations.
Founded in 1886, Goldey-Beacom College has approximately 1,300 students enrolled from 22 states and 65 nations. The College offers 46 degree options in its graduate and undergraduate programs with majors in psychology, economics, criminal justice, communication & media, human services, English, and all areas of business, including accounting, business administration, entrepreneurship, and finance.
The College began accepting students into two new degree programs in fall 2022: B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies; B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Business Analytics. Also new in fall 2022, the College is offering five new undergraduate certificate programs including marketing, human resource management, health care management, entrepreneurship and information technology.
In fall 2023, the College plans to offer two additional degrees: Bachelor of Science in Marketing; Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Digital Marketing.
The College is committed to connecting its graduates with careers in their respective fields. For over a decade, the College has achieved a 90% placement rate for graduates. Goldey-Beacom College is located in Pike Creek Valley, a suburb of Wilmington, Delaware. The College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs.
