Goldey-Beacom College’s Kirker and Vaid Receive Transform Mid-Atlantic Awards

 

Wilmington, DE –Goldey-Beacom College (GBC) is pleased to announce Beth Kirker and Sulakshmi Vaid will be honored by Transform Mid-Atlantic (TMA) at its 2023 awards ceremony on Thursday, November 30, 2023, in Baltimore, MD.

 

Transformational Leadership Award

 

Beth Kirker, director of career services, is the 2023 recipient of the Transformational Leadership Award for her outstanding contributions to the development of the partnership between Skyline Middle School’s Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program and Goldey-Beacom College. The partnership includes cross-campus collaborations that drive academic and co-curricular success for Skyline students while demonstrating Goldey-Beacom’s mission to co- develop equitable relationships with K-12 schools and other institutions in the community.

 

Working with the leadership at Skyline, Ms. Kirker has created opportunities for GBC faculty, staff and students to spend two mornings each week at Skyline, working with AVID students in formal and informal ways. In addition to GBC being present in the school, students from Skyline come visit GBC at regular intervals as well.

 

“Beth’s work to establish a strong relationship with our local middle school has been incredibly beneficial for our campus,” said Dr. Joel Worden, recently appointed vice president for academic affairs and provost. “Our students have experienced the blessing of mentorship, and our staff and faculty have had the privilege to build relationships with local students and educators. Goldey-Beacom is grateful to Beth for her tireless dedication to growing and sustaining these relationships.”

 

Exceptional AmeriCorps VISTA Service Award

 

Sulakshmi Vaid, Ameri-Corps VISTA member, is the recipient of the Exceptional AmeriCorps VISTA Service Award. This award recognizes Ms. Vaid’s inspiring and continuing service as a TMA AmeriCorps VISTA member at Goldey-Beacom College building a coalition of student volunteers for community service and forming partnerships for the college to create avenues of volunteerism and opportunity.

 

 

“In celebrating, dedication and compassion, Sulakshmi Vaid has been a beacon of hope and support in our community,” said Jocelyn Moses (Byers-Smith), dean of students. “Her tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to service has touched countless lives, demonstrating what it truly means to be a pillar of the community. Whether organizing local events, volunteering at shelters, or advocating for those in need, Sulakshmi exemplifies selflessness and empathy in every action. This award is not only a recognition of her outstanding contributions but also a testament to the powerful impact one individual can have on the lives of many. We are so proud to honor Sulakshmi Vaid for her exceptional dedication to community service.”

 

Transform Mid-Atlantic is a non-profit membership association of public, private, 2- and 4-year colleges and universities, including many HBCUs and minority serving institutions. Transform Mid-Atlantic provides leadership to colleges and universities in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Delaware by advocating, supporting, and encouraging institutional participation in academic and co-curricular based public service and civic engagement programs.

 

Founded in 1886, Goldey-Beacom College has approximately 1,300 students enrolled from 29 states and 65 nations. The College offers 48 degree options in its graduate and undergraduate programs with majors in psychology, economics, criminal justice, communication & media, human services, English, and all areas of business, including accounting, business administration, entrepreneurship and finance. Additionally, the College offers 13 certificate programs.

 

The College began accepting students into two new degree programs in fall 2022: B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies; B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Business Analytics. Also in fall 2022, the College began offering five new undergraduate certificate programs including marketing, human resource management, health care management, entrepreneurship and information technology.

 

The College began accepting students into three new degree programs in fall 2023: Bachelor of Science in Digital Marketing, and two concentrations in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program: Cybersecurity and Esports & Gaming Administration. Also offered in fall 2023 are stackable new macro and micro graduate certificate programs.

 

The College is committed to connecting its graduates with careers in their respective fields. For over a decade, the College has achieved a 90% placement rate for graduates. Goldey-Beacom College is located in Pike Creek Valley, a suburb of Wilmington, Delaware. The College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs.
